HCC Brings Stars to the Eyes of Shriners Hospital Patients

HOUSTON – Faculty, staff and students from the “Star Squad” of Houston Community College Southwest are teaming up with the Fort Bend Astronomy Club to bring the wonders of the night sky to pediatric patients at Shriners Hospital for Children-Houston.

Star gazing is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 23 at the Shriners Hospital, 6977 Main Street, in the Texas Medical Center.

Equipped with high powered telescopes and scientific specimens, the Star Squad will take patients into a journey of our amazing solar system. The children, along with their families, will be able to touch and learn about meteorites, and if weather permits, they will have an exciting opportunity to see Mercury, Venus, Mars and the Moon.

The Star Squad originated out of the HCC-Southwest College and currently hosts “Star Parties” at each of the Southwest campuses throughout the year. To see the full schedule of upcoming HCC Star Parties visit southwest.hccs.edu.
