Aquatics: Swimmers going for gold
The Sharpstown-based Houston Swim Club will be well-represented at the 2010 Speedo Junior National Championships on Monday through Friday at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif. Head coach Gilbert Legaspi said Houston Swim Club will send seven athletes to the national long-course junior meet this week.

District 20-5A volleyball coaches, there's plenty of bad news coming your way. Bellaire, the league's resident bully over the past decade, is back, bigger and meaner than ever. Head coach Ap Clarke believes she has her tallest, most athletic squad to date, and that must provoke fear among the rest of the competition.
Baseball: Musial series to start Wednesday
For any baseball fans yearning to watch good, quality baseball for free, there will be some in town next week. The Stan Musial World Series, which has called Sam Houston State University in Huntsville its home for the past three years, will be played at Baseball USA, 2626 West Sam Houston Parkway North, starting Wednesday (Aug. 11) and running through Sunday, Aug. 15.
Athletics: Rams find wins on, off field
Awty might be one of the most unique schools in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools ranks. The Uptown-area school, which offers international English-language and French bilingual curricula, has roughly 1,200 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, the majority of them from abroad.
7-on-7 Football: Private schools set for summer event
St. Pius X is back to defend its title at the Texas Private School Coaches Association 7-on-7 State Championship Tournament this week in Houston. The TPSCA's fourth annual state event is Friday and Saturday with first-day pool play at Kinkaid and St. Thomas High Schools, and second-day bracket action at Kinkaid.
